The challenge
Home service demand arrives by phone, often outside office hours, and the first company to answer usually wins the job. Missed calls were going straight to voicemail — and to a competitor.
What we built
An AI front desk for home services that answers on the first ring, qualifies the job, checks availability and writes the appointment straight into the scheduling system, with quotes, confirmations and reminders following automatically.
A burst pipe does not wait for business hours. Neither does an outage, a broken furnace or a roof that started leaking during a storm. The homeowner works down a list of numbers, and the job goes to whoever picks up first.
The leak was in the answering, not the marketing
The spend that brings a homeowner to the phone is the expensive part. Letting that call reach voicemail wastes it entirely — and the caller does not leave a message, because the next company on the list is one tap away.
Three moments were losing work:
- Evenings and weekends, when nobody was at the desk.
- Mid-job hours, when the crew was under a sink and could not answer.
- Overlapping calls during a weather event, when demand spikes and one line cannot serve it.
What we built
Mango AI answers on the first ring, at any hour, on any number of calls at once. In one conversation it:
- Qualifies the job — what has failed, where, how urgent, what access looks like.
- Checks real availability against the crew's actual schedule, not a generic calendar.
- Books the appointment into the scheduling system the office already runs.
- Follows up with the quote, the confirmation, and reminders ahead of the visit.
Anything genuinely unusual — a hazard, an insurance job, a commercial contract — is routed to a person with the call context attached.
What made it work
Speed to answer. The system targets a sub-two-second first response, which is the difference between a caller who stays on the line and one who is already dialling the next number.
Booking into the real schedule. The value is not a transcript of a call. It is a job on the board that the crew will see in the morning, with the address, the fault and the access notes already on it.
Where it stands
After-hours calls no longer reach voicemail, and the first-ring answer holds during the demand spikes that used to be the worst time to be unreachable.
